I’ve been going to New York Fashion Week since 2009. I can count on one hand how many times there was an actual plus size designer show during fashion week. This year I attended the Oxford Fashion Studio show which featured 10 designers. Plus size designer Rene Tyler was the only designer who featured a full fledged plus size collection. In addition, all her models were plus size. Rene Tyler is a Las Vegas based size inclusive designer who has designed pieces for celebrities and everyday women who want to embrace their curves.
This year was my first time attending the Oxford Fashion Studio show. I didn’t know they were featuring 10 designers and I certainly didn’t expect to see a plus size designer show. So when the first plus size model came sashaying from backstage down the runway I jumped up with the quickness and almost hit someone in the head.
The Rene Tyler Collection At New York Fashion Week
You would have thought I was a parent at a school play screaming for their kid when one plus size model after the other strutted down the runway. These models weren’t your typical size 10/12 plus size models. They were larger models and worked those pieces with pride. Rene Tyler’s collection “Noir Et Blanc” was inspired by Parisian style, elegance, and inclusivity.
The looks were glamorous and sexy. One of my favorite pieces was a houndstooth belted dress over a matching pair of wide leg pants. Then there was a ruffle black sheer pant set. Other wow worthy looks was a sparkly thigh high split dress with exaggerated sleeves.
The fashion crowd went wild when plus size model Liris Cross ended the show in a jaw dropping black and white printed gown with feathers on the shoulder. Rene’s collection was definitely one for the books. Its very rare to have a show at fashion week that features larger models and an entire collection of plus size clothing. Especially clothing that everyday plus size women can fit and would want to wear. This is the show everyone should be talking about.
Plus size designer Rene Tyler has dressed celebrities like Laverne Cox, Mary Lambert, and Marsha Ambrosius. Her pieces start at a size 12 and goes up to a 6X.

Loved the outfits! Stylish and the models wear them well. I would like to see outfits that would complement those with more of an apple shape as these models are clearly hour glass shape which is not the situation with many plus size women. But I think I can wear one or two but most definitely they would be too long!!! 5’2

I love the fashions that you display and the women look Fabulous, someone commented about the models are all tall, us plus size Ladies come in all sizes and heights – I’m 5’3 234lbs and I use to Model in my younger years and have had a couple of Fashion Shows. If your ever in the Philadelphia area you should have a Model Call, plus size no height required and women 35 and over. I’m sixty something and still have it going on. Stay safe, healthy and well, may God continue to Bless you in all you do.
