Hey curvy girls all over the world,
I remember watching an episode of the Wendy Williams show and she was talking about colors that she was hesitated to wear because she was a big girl. She said she tried to stay away from gray, purple and yellow because she didn’t want to be referred to as an elephant, Barney, or Big Bird. I laughed so hard watching that old episode but in all honesty what she was saying resonated with me.
When it comes to wearing bright colors, I don’t hesitate for a second, however, there has always been one color that I always thought twice about wearing, and that color is red. If you’ve been following me from the beginning, you know why I never really wore red.
For those of you that just started following me. I was traumatized by a 6 year old who once told me that I looked like a big red Fat Albert when I wore a red sweater. It was many many years ago but it definitely made me have ill feelings towards the color. I mean, what woman wants to be called Fat Albert?! At the time I was embarrassed and literally wanted to upper cut a 6 year old.
It took some time for me to get over that reference but when I did, I started to wear red again. I would do a red skirt or red blazer but sometimes, I would still feel self conscious in it. It was like every time I put on red, that little evil 6 year old boy’s comment would suddenly come back to mind. I had to keep telling myself, you are too grown to still allow a comment like that to stop you from wearing a color that you look rather fabulous in. Then about two years ago, I wore a purple dress on national television and a random person tweeted me saying, you look like Barney. OMG! I nearly melted in my cheer. I was like, dang, I’m not safe from any color.
With that comment, instead of trashing every purple piece I owned, I decided to take control, laugh at the comment, and write a blog post about how Barney has nothing on me (you can read it HERE). As plus size women, and just women in general, its so easy for us to take things people say about our size to heart, and its ok because we are human beings with feelings. At the end of the day, you can’t allow other people’s negative comments to stop you from wearing what you want or feeling bad about your size.
People are always going to have something to say whether you’re fat, skinny, short, or tall. All you can do is be confident and sure of yourself. You shouldn’t give negative comments about your body power over you.
Has this ever happened to you, or am I the only one?

This has most definitely happened to me. In fact, it happened recently like yesterday on my Instagram post (@ms_kishina). Some random prick decided to poke fun at my swollen ankles by stating “those poor heals”, and had the nerve to tag somebody else. Nevermind the fact that he didn’t pay attention to homonyms in school…lol. I laughed and kindly blocked and deleted him. I know my ankles are retaining water right now, but that doesn’t mean I’m not working on that. I love me anyway. You look fabulous in this red! Please continue to keep inspiring not only myself but many others

LOL Kishina! That tagging photos and making jokes is what ticks me off. I’m glad you blocked him.

You look gorgeous! Let it all go. Young lady at mentoring group this weekend said that she does a “perfect flaw” exercise every morning. God says that whatever we lack he makes sufficient for us. So you are perfect in his eyes including whatever flaw you can come up with.

That was beautiful Diamond. Thank you!

Happy, well-adjusted people do not make hurtful comments. I feel sad for these commenters who are maladapted and unhappy. They want to spread their misery, and we should not give them that kind of power. BTW, you look gorgeous, in red and in purple.
