Every year there’s an immense level of hype around the anniversary sale. I use to feed into it until I learned what’s the real purpose of the sale and why I should be shopping it. And if I should be shopping it at all.
It literally has taken me about two years to fully grasp why people love this sale. And figure out how to benefit from it. In the past, I just shopped whatever I thought was cute and worth the price. Even if I didn’t need anything. Now, I shop with a strategy and plan.

First things first, here’s why people love the sale: The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is a time when you can shop NEW fall fashion at a discounted price. When August rolls around, the prices go back up. And these are some of the lowest prices of the season, before Black Friday. If you like to shop for the next season in advance, then this is the sale to do so.
My Nordstrom Plus Size Sale Shopping Strategy
As a plus size woman who loves fashion, its easy for me to get sidetracked and blinded by all the cute new fall fashion and sale prices. Especially when it comes in my size. What I’ve learned in the past couple of years is to be more intentional with my purchases during this sale.
One thing I love about the sale is that it is truly size inclusive. You can find deals on plus size clothing ranging from an XXL-5X. And believe me when I say this. There was a time when the plus size clothing deals weren’t good.
Thank God there are better plus size options. Mainly because there are better size inclusive and pure plus size brands that have been included in the sale.
The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is also the perfect time to shop quality contemporary higher end plus size brands.
My first plan of action: Look in my closet and see what I’m missing or what needs to be updated in my wardrobe. I make a note of it and begin checking out deals on those pieces. It’s a good thing Nordy allows you to preview the sale and make your own wishlist of items.
Secondly, I focus on quality basics. Since the sale consists of fall items, sweaters, jeans, tees, and outerwear are common basics that are worth an upgrade.
My plan this year is to update my jeans. As a plus size woman with ample hips and booty, good quality jeans are hard to come by. And denim is always part of the Nsale.
My favorite jeans to get during the sale are Good American and NYDJ. They are considered premium denim. These jeans can run you anywhere from $99-$200 for one pair. And both brands offer up to a size 26+.

These are some of the plus size NYDJ and Good American jeans that will be part of the anniversary sale. Of course other denim brands will be on sale like Madewell, Kut From the Kloth and Wit & Wisdom.
Coats, Jackets, & Blazers
Next up on my shopping list is outerwear. I’m looking to update my wardrobe with a new coat, jacket, and maybe a blazer or two. This year’s sale has some really nice on trend and chic outwerwear pieces.
There’s a few that I want to point out. Especially because we don’t often see these styles or level of quality in plus sizes.
These pieces immediately went on my wishlist.
- The Spanx Asymmetric Ponte Knit Blazer is so simple, yet so chic. The one gold button just elevates the blazer. It gives quiet luxury vibes
- Good American Belted Cropped Denim Jacket is right on trend. I love that its cropped. And the buttons are asymmetric. Giving it a cool street style vibe.
- The Nordstrom Leather Blazer is what I would call an investment piece because its real leather and priced under $250. Real leather is becoming a challenge to find in plus sizes. This one goes up to a size 4X (26/28).
While I love a dressy outerwear, I did like some of the sporty casual coat & jacket options. Below are a few in plus sizes that will be part of the sale.
What I Skip From The Nordstrom Sale
Three of the categories I skip during the sale as a plus size woman is dresses, pants, and skirts. Very seldom do I find plus size dresses, pants, and skirts on Nordstrom that are actually worth the sale price.

As for pants, I do have my eye on two pairs of pants. I’m loving a pink pair of scuba wide leg pants and a black pair of luxe suiting wide leg trousers.
Nordstrom Sale Pajamas & Lingerie Picks
I’m a huge fan of Nordstrom brand pajamas. The quality and softness of their pajamas is worth the $47 sale price. I try to buy a new set every year.
This year I have the cropped pajama set on my list. As well as the ribbed sets. I wear my pajamas every night so this is a basic that I like to refresh every few years.
Bras are wardrobe staples. And if you are part of the BTC group, you need quality bras. Two of my favorite brands have great sales. Elomi & Wacoal. Their bras are typicall $70. During the sale you can get them for less than $50.
Sweaters & Tops
As for shirts and sweaters, there are a few basics that definitely caught my eye. Again, simple yet chic.
- Loving this striped oversized 100% cotton shirt from Madewell. It’s a classic wardrobe staple. The slits on the side give it a little extra flair.
- This square neck vest is perfect to take you from work to weekend.
- Although its simple, the chicness of this off the shoulder sweater makes it easy to dress up and down.
- For some reason this popular striped polo sweater is calling my name. I don’t need it but I like it.
Footwear Sale Picks
When it comes to shoes, I find that the better deals on sneakers. Below are a few pair that are right on trend and worth the sale price.
Occassionally, I find a nice boot. I have my eye on these faux suede wide calf high heeled boots.
Accessories Worth Checking Out
I like a good pair of sunglasses. Below are a medley of sunglasses that are on sale. This is a great time to get a pair of designer shades for almost half off.
And Nordstrom has some pretty good deals on fine and costume jewelry. Michelle watches will be on sale as well as Bon Levy jewelry.
Typically I skip handbags because you can find better deals and more stylish options via other brands and websites. However, the Beis carry on roller is over $75 off. That’s a pretty good deal.
My Final Tips & Strategy
Create a wishlist of the items you really want. When you create the wishlist make sure you’re saving it in your size. This way when you purchase, you can save a few seconds from having to look for your size.
SHOP THE SALE ONLINE!. Ya’ll know these department stores barely sell plus sizes in store. To make sure you get what you want, order it online.
