Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Can you believe we are halfway through February already? I can’t! Spring is literally right around the corner, even though it doesn’t feel like it since it’s 9 degrees here in New York City. Being that NYC is in a deep freeze I have been doing a lot of hibernating at home. Only going out when it is truly necessary. Since I’ve been home more this winter, I’ve realized that my closet is truly a hot mess. Being a fashion blogger and self-proclaimed shopaholic has my bedroom looking like a mini department store. I’ve accumulated so many clothes and shoes that I literally have at least 6 plastic bins filled with items that I haven’t even worn yet. All that means is that it’s time for some spring cleaning. I actually have a friend who had so many clothes in her closet that had gone untouched for months and she had no clue that moths had taken up residence inside there and were destroying her favorite pieces. When she eventually got round to spring cleaning, she discovered them and instantly called pest control services (not unlike this – https://www.pestcontrolexperts.com/local/michigan/jackson/) which were able to eliminate the problem before the moths were able to do any more damage. Goes to show the importance of more regular cleaning and sorting sessions around the house – unwanted guests can simply go unnoticed!
A closet purge/spring cleaning is exactly what I need to jump-start the spring season. Of course, I have so much more to do, like calling for Air Duct Cleaning in Seattle to prepare my ducts for the air conditioning that will be required this summer, and a good amount of garden cleaning as well as gutter cleaning, though starting with something I have more control over, like my closet, might be best for my sanity. I have so much stuff that I literally have a rolling rack in my bedroom that is practically leaning over and my shoe shelf can no longer hold shoes. Don’t let me get started on my makeup storage. My dresser looks like a MAC counter. It is imperative that I do something about it because I can never find anything and I wind up buying items twice for that reason. So, out of everything I just described to you, I’m in desperate need of closet organization.
I’ve always been a fan of closet organizational boxes because you can create order out of chaos. This year, I’m going to be trying out SOFI products. Have you ever tried their stuff? This will be my first time and I am so excited. I think it’s so cool that SOFI products are made of from a minimum of 65% recycled content and even more important they are super affordable with prices ranging from $9.99-$29.99.
I received a few SOFI boxes last week and they are so stylish and chic. I got the SOFI Hex Box, SOFI Zipper Tote, Small, and the
SOFI Brix Box, Small along with a few other boxes. They have simple and soft geometric forms with rounded corners. I love the zipper accents and woven hand materials. I don’t have to worry about my clothes being damaged because of the stain-guard protected silken textured exterior.
I am going to do a before and after closet cleaning post using the SOFI products. When it comes to getting your closet organized the first thing you must do is to purge your closet of things you don’t need, can’t fit, or don’t want. In my after post I will share more closet cleaning tips with you. I have a friend who has one of those amazing walk-in closets (jealous doesn’t even begin to describe it), she’s taken EVERYTHING out to organize and called up a Carpet Cleaning Melbourne service to deep clean her closet floor and material storage bench ready for her new clothes so everything is fresh and tidy for the new season. I think that’s a pretty good way of doing your spring clean, not only are you cleaning out your closet you are actually cleaning your closet. I would feel such relief. And once this is done, I might be able to concentrate well on the other works that are pending, such as the garden and gutter cleaning (check the likes of Gutter Cleaning Little Rock) that needs to be done.
Organizing expert and President of Chaos to Order Monica Friel has some amazing closet cleaning organizational tips. Checkout a few of them below
- Reimagine your closet as your personal chic boutique: Before you begin to organize, make sure you have cleverly-designed products to make your closet inspiring, vibrant and fun! The new line of SOFITM home organizational products can help you makeover your closet. SOFI products feature stylistic touches like gold fasteners and zipper accents, geometric print interiors, in a sophisticated color palette to bring you inspiration every time you open your closet door.
- Now, Be a Style Editor: Go through your closet item by item. Eliminate what feels drab while gathering ideas for pieces you can add to update your existing clothing collection.
- Group Similar Items Together: The best way to know exactly what you have is to put like-items together. Use your style editor-eye to organize by type of clothing or style and then by color.
- Celebrate the Season: Keep the clothes you’re currently wearing accessible so that you don’t have to waste time searching for the things you need. For quick access to clothes and accessories, use a SOFITM Brix BoxTM with pull-out handles and open tops or a SOFITM Zipper ToteTM for quick, front-panel access to clothes and accessories. And, take advantage of floor and shelf space in your closet with a SOFITM Stax ShelfTMthat makes the most of existing vertical and horizontal space.
- Forget Last Season: Take time to get out-of-season clothes stored away. This will make your closet feel less cramped so you can easily see what you own before hitting the stores.
- Organization is not a Destination: Organization is an ongoing process that requires efficient systems, maintenance and the good old-fashioned discipline of putting things back in place. With Monica Friel’s tips, you’ll be on your way to having your own couture closet space!
Feel free to share some of yours with me in the comments below. I need all the help I can get.
