BACK TO SCHOOL SPECIAL: WHERE TO SHOP FOR JUNIOR PLUS SIZE CLOTHES

Hey curvy girls all over the world,

I remember growing up as a plus size teen in the early 90’s and the only places to shop for trendy clothes in plus was Ashley Stewart, Lane Bryant, Old Navy, and The Gap. There were literally very minimal options. While I was happy for having Ashley Stewart and Lane Bryant, I secretly was annoyed shopping there because at the time it was the same place my mom was shopping. In the early 90’s it was definitely not cool to wear the same clothes your mom was wearing. Oh the horror! Fast forward to over 10 years later, and my oh my, how the options and styles have changed.

In today’s body confident world, junior plus sizes are a little more easier to shop for thanks to a few online retailers. I personally like the options that are available because they are super affordable and finally, there are plus size clothes that are on trend with what we see on the runways and in fashion magazines. One thing I do know that can be challenging when shopping for a plus size teen, especially a female, is finding clothes that are youthful and not too grown (as my mom would say) Yes, some of these clothes can be a little risky and too sexy for say anyone under the age of 21. Luckily, their is variety in the junior plus size market, so parents don’t have to worry about sending there girls to school looking like they are about head to the club.

Back in the day, I used to work at a lot of retail stores (this is why I have a shopping addiction) and it was then that I found out how many stores actually carried above a size XL but never advertised it. The same goes for women retailers like Loft and Ann Taylor. Although, they don’t advertise it, I can share with you the online and in store retailers that offer junior plus sizes.

American Eagle Outfitters-AE online carries up to a size 18 in jeans and XXL in tops and dresses. They offer a medley of jackets and blazers as well as numerous denim washes, cuts, and tons of tees.

 

 

 

 

 

Aeropostale– Over the past couple of years, Aeropostale has added extended sizes to their website which also go up to a size 18 and XXL in a variety of styles.

 

 

 

 

Forever21 Plus-You should know by now that Forever21 has a healthy online plus size section and in some cities, you can even shop the plus size line in stores. Forever21 goes up to a size 3x or 20 for dresses, jeans, tops, and jackets. They also offer tights in plus sizes.

 

 

 

Alight-Alight is known for their extensive selection of plus size dresses. They carry up to a size 3X and they sell pieces from other plus size brands like Ruby Rox and Revolt jeans. You will find a multitude of tops and bottoms sized up to 24.

 

Deb Shops–Deb Shops is super affordable when it comes to shopping for the fickled minded teenager. They carry just about the same items in their main range as they do in plus. They carry everything from colored denim to cute prnted tops. Available sizes range from 1X-3x in tops and dresses and up to size 24 in denim.

 

 

Wet Seal–Recently, Wet Seal just revamped their plus size selection online and they provide the young plus size fashionista with trendy and edgy styles. You’ll find a bevy of printed leggings, cool rocker tees, and flirty dresses all sized from 1X-3X

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nordstrom – Besides great customer service Nordstrom offers a nice and polished selection of junior plus size online. Junior sizes are specifically labeled jr plus size and ranges from 1X-3X and 14-24
