4TH ANNUAL DENIM WEEK: STYLISH CURVES FALL 2013 PLUS SIZE DENIM GUIDE

Welcome to our annual fall denim guide. For the past 4 years, SC has kept you in the loop on the best denim trends to buy for your curves. For those of you who have just started following us, every year in August we devote an entire week to plus size denim. I hope you enjoy our picks.

As retailers and designers in the plus size industry begin to create runway looks in plus, options for plus size women have expanded and are now endless, especially in the denim department. This year, denim trends are again revisiting the 80’s with acid wash styles and now denim trends are taking us back to the 90’s with baggy styles and, wait for it, OVERALLS. Yes, overalls are back and there are tons of chic ways to wear them. For fall 2013 we are seeing high-waisted trends, trousers, and the continuation of colored denim.

With brands like NYDJ, City Chic, ASOS Curve, and Torrid, plus size women can now have their pick of the litter when it comes to denim.

We breakdown some of the hottest trends in plus. Also, this week, keep it locked on SC.com as we go in to other denim styles, looks, and tips to keep your denim looking fresh.

 

In its prime in the 80’s, acid wash denim was worn by every teenager and was one of the hottest denim trends. Last year it made a quiet comeback but this year in plus, it is making a splash. From acid wash skinny’s to acid wash denim skater dresses, you can relive the 80’s in a much more flattering and stylish way.

Distressed denim has been blazing the path this summer and now is transitioning into fall. We love the distressed boyfriend jeans best. Rock it with a structured blazer for a polished and edgy look.

For girls with ample bellies, do not be afraid of the high waisted jean, it is your friend (once you find the right fit). I am probably more excited about the high waisted jean than any other denim trend. I love the sexy retro look it gives and plan to find one with the right amount of stretch to flatter this tummy.

The side stripe jean aka the “Tuxedo Jean”gives a dressy look and goes well with a peplum top. Our favorite pair are the City Chic skinny side stripe jean.

It looks like colored denim is going to be around for awhile. This season, we are digging the rich jewel tone colors to dress up with flowy blouses. For nights out, the coated or waxed denim will be our go to for creating edgy and sexy looks.

So skinny jeans have taken over the denim world and we don’t believe they will ever go away. They’re classic now. However, for those of you looking for a break, the Trouser jean is it. The great thing about a trouser jean is that you can wear it to work and still look professional and polished.

Much like colored denim, printed denim is staking its claim. This year, camouflage, stars, and stripes are the most popular printed jeans and thank goodness we have an abundance of plus size options to choose from.

Last and certainly not least, is the overall denim trend. Right now, ASOS Curve seems to be the only plus size brand that has taken the leap of re-creating this trend in plus.
